We are looking forward to working with all of you for another year! If you ever have any questions, please let us know. We are never too busy for questions.
We pray that we will be a blessing to each other, and help each other fulfill our calling of service to our Lord and Savior!
Please keep in mind that this first month, there are a lot of adjustments for our children, with the classes, and homework. In the past, we have found that the children will step up, and complete the required work, but the first weeks, some are overwhelmed. Let’s be patient with each other, and encourage our children to take one week at a time, instead of looking at the whole year’s work! (We will all take the same advice for ourselves!!)
We have many decisions to make in order for our year to go smoothly. We try to make the best decision with the information that we have. If you ever would like to know more about how we arrived at a decision, or are questioning our conclusion, Please ask!
Many misunderstandings can be quickly resolved by a better explanation. We also acknowledge that at some time, we may make the wrong decision. Communication is the key to a good year together!
-Bev and Teresa
Please read very carefully the following important info-
1. LUNCHTIME RULES:
1. MOMS PLEASE CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR OWN CHILDREN AND HAVE THEM READY FOR ELECTIVES BY 12:25. THIS MEANS HAVE HANDS WASHED AND BATHROOM BREAK FINISHED BEFORE THEY GO TO CLASS.
2. ALL BACKPACKS AND LUNCH BOXES MUST BE TAKEN TO VEHICLES BEFORE GOING TO 12:30 CLASS.
3. PLEASE WIPE OFF YOUR OWN TABLE BEFORE GOING TO 12:30 ACTIVITY. DISH CLOTHES WILL AVAILABLE IN KITCHEN
4. MIDDLE SCHOOLERS AND HIGH SCHOOLERS NEED TO WIPE OFF THEIR TABLES BEFORE GOING TO 12:30 ACTIVITY.
2. In each classroom, there is a diagram of how the room is to be arranged when we leave. Third hour teachers and helpers, please make sure this happens. There are other co-op groups meeting in the church Mondays and Tuesdays, so the way we found the room may not be the way the church wants it to be. Please take this seriously, as we are grateful to the church for letting us meet here, and we want to respect them! The first several weeks, we will have to let it as we find it, as the church classes are only getting set up for fall quarter. The diagrams may change later in Sept.
3. SNACKS for grades 3 and under- Please bring a snack for your child, clearly labeled with their name, and put it in the marked baskets in the fellowship hall. We have found that many children have allergies to different foods, and this way, families can pack according to their needs. We have a snack time each morning, for classes grade 3 and under. Teachers, before you leave the fellowship hall after announcements, please take your basket with you. Grades 4-6 may have a time set aside for snacks. If they would like a small snack, please have it in their backpack.
4. Schedule for Wednesday mornings: It is very important to be prompt!!
We are asking that every week, you arrive at 8:30. Last year, we had the problem of the first class starting after 9, because people were still arriving, or in announcements. I know it is difficult to get everyone out the door in the morning, but we must work together here! The schedule will be – arrive at 8:30, announcements to follow, then off to classes by 8:50.
5. Either Teresa, Bev, or Peggy will be available each hour, as a hallway monitor. If you are having any problems with your class, your room, if you do not have enough help in your class, or have any other concerns, please let the monitor know when she comes by!
6. The first hour, Bev and Teresa will have a leadership meeting for planning, etc. Please do not hesitate to “interrupt” our meeting. We are still available during this hour. Thank you for making is possible for us to meet this hour, instead of taking time away from our families at another time. We really appreciate it! We will meet in an empty room past the fellowship hall, or in the fellowship hall.
7. All gym classes, sports clinic students- Please note that sneakers must be worn for all gym activities. Sandals are not appropriate for gym activities. Also- black soled shoes mark the gym floor. Please make sure your children’s shoes will not mark the floor. We have spent a lot of time in the past cleaning up marks!
8. Email is usually a good way to communicate with me. I check it several times a day, and try to respond promptly.
Although email can be a wonderful thing, sometimes it fails. If you send me an email, and I do not respond in 24 hours, please send it again! If I am ever away for a period of time, I will let you know. – Teresa
9. Email Guidelines- For updates to the Blog
-Messages will be posted on Tues and Friday during the school year,or more often if necessary.
-When the blog is updated, you will receive an email that it has been updated. If you are away from your computer, or are having computer problems, please make it your responsibility to get messages from the web-site, on the blog.
-Please send messages that need to go to the group to Teresa Nolt
by 8pm on Mondays and Thursdays for posting the next day.
-Please print emails and file them in a notebook for reference. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT
-When you send me an announcement for the group, please word it so I can simply cut and paste. In other words, type it up like you are sending it to the group. Please put in the subject box ‘message for MACH group”, or else preface the message with a note to me, telling me to send it to everyone. Sometimes it is hard for me to know whether you are just informing me of something, or if it is supposed to be sent to everyone.
-Teachers, please be in touch directly with your classes, and give assignments via email. Make a group list, and please include me in that.
-Please respect the list, and post MACH related communications only.
-Emails from the group will have MACH news and the date in the subject line.
10. Teachers
-Please note that classes end at 5 minutes before the hour, so that students can easily transition to the next class.
-When you send your class assignments, please make sure that I am in every group list
-When you send emails to your class, please put MACH- and Class/ grade, and subject in the memo line. ie: MACH 4th grade history.
11. Parents of nursery and preschool children: please make sure all of your child’s things are clearly labeled- cups, bottles, bags, etc.
12. Teachers of nursery and preschool- Please gather your class in the fellowship hall after announcements, so the moms don’t have to take their children upstairs, and try to get to their first class.
13. I will post this on the blog. If you do not receive notification of the blog update – please let me know! It is my goal to soon be posting only on the blog.
14. A few notes regarding electives: Thanks so much to all of you for filling your required helper spots and for those of you who willingly made some changes. For those of you, who were asked to make changes or additions, please log onto the website and make those changes, if possible. I know several of you mentioned that you were not able to remove your name once it was on. There should be a red “X” next to your name. If you click on the “x”, it should take your name off. If for some reason the computer will not allow you to make the change, let LaWanda know. (

15 Several students came unprepared to art class. Please make sure your student has the necessary supplies! A copy of the list of supplies is below, for you to review. For those of you who gave egg cartons or paper plates to use as palettes, please make sure your child has a clean one every week, because several students threw their’s out at the end of the day. Also, be sure your student has more than one sharpened pencil–at least 2 or 3 would be helpful. Some students did not have any pencils, while others broke the point on the only pencil they had. All of these things slow down the entire class and as a result projects are not completed. If a student continues to come to class unprepared, he or she will be asked to leave and will only be allowed to return, once he has the necessary supplies. The helper each week needs to enforce this policy.
In addition to the listed supplies, we would ask that all art students bring a stack of newspapers to cover their work surface with. Some of the paint and pastels stained the tables. Also, make sure each student has a roll of paper towels. Write your student’s name inside the roll. Several of the students left their supplies in the art room closet. In the future, we will only allow the student to keep their supplies there, if they have ALL of the necessary supplies. If they are missing something, they need to take their container home and restock-it.
1. General Art Class for Elementary Grades (3-6th)
>
> Supply List:
>
> *Tempera paints – one plastic jar or bottle each of the following colors: red, yellow, blue, white, and black. Students may share the tempera paint bottles. A set of small plastic jars containing a greater variety of tempera colors will work as well. (I purchased a set for about $7). Sometimes the sets are more cost efficient.
>
> 3 to 5 varied size brushes (small to medium) including a 5/8” brush (or something slightly larger). Expensive brushes are not necessary. If you already have varied painting/craft brushes on hand, they will likely be sufficient.
>
> *9 x 12 or 11 x 14 tablet of thick paper suitable for water based paints (such as watercolors, acrylics etc.)
>
>
> The rest of the supplies for this class are likely around your house!
>
> No. 2 pencil
>
> Good eraser
>
> Palette – An egg carton or a Styrofoam tray/plate makes a great inexpensive and disposable paint palette. Plastic plates also work well.
>
> Plastic container (approximately quart size)
>
> Sheet of cardboard with a perimeter several inches larger than the tablet (you can cut one out of a large cardboard box)
>
> *Masking tape
>

Supplies for Pastel Painting Class: grades 7-12

9 x12 or 11 x 14 (preferred) tablet of paper suitable for pastels and/or charcoal. Suggested (but not required) brands are Strathmore and Canson. *
Set of 24 ((more (32) or less (12) is fine too)) artist’s pastel blocks (these are different than oil pastels). The prices of the sets can vary greatly from brand to brand. You do not have to purchase the expensive brands. While the expensive brands do deliver higher quality color and application, the inexpensive brands will serve just as well for learning purposes.*
Optional…Set of pastel pencils (whatever number desired or affordable for the more serious artist). Please note that these are NOT a mandatory item. *
Rag (for cleaning dusty fingers).
Newspaper (to protect table surfaces)
Paper towels*
